“First, forget inspiration. Habit is more dependable. Habit will sustain you whether you’re inspired or not. Habit will help you finish and polish your stories. Inspiration won’t. Habit is persistence in practice.” ―Octavia Butler

Hey AINYF Community,

American Science Fiction writer, Octavia Butler’s, quote about the importance of daily habits underscores how much we have to stay consistent in our daily activities if we ever want to reach our goals.

When we look for inspiration to motivate us, we put ourselves in a precarious situation.

Often, we are not going to always feel like doing whatever we need to do to achieve the things we want to in life.

However, if we have daily habits that we do regardless of how we feel or what is going on, we will put ourselves in the driver’s seat of being able to do whatever we put our minds to.

Our ability to establish the daily habits that will get us closer to our goals and then our ability to execute on them, whether we feel like it or not, is often the secret to long term success.

Show me someone who has achieved amazing things, and I’ll show you someone who has daily habits that they execute every day regardless of their feelings.

You can’t control what happens in the future and what “luck” may come your way, but you can always control what habits you do every day.

Control your habits and control your future.

Dupe is the author of an international award selling book, A Cocktail of Clarity and just had her book’s one year anniversary.

I was given the privilege of interviewing her for this episode and had an absolute blast doing so.

Here’s a link to the podcast so you can check it out and go support Dupe in any way possible.

Thanks for checking it out in advance!

AINYF TOP CONTENT OF THE WEEK

As always, we had a lot of great articles this week submitted by our group of talented contributors and writers on Medium in general.

This week’s top articles are:

Thomas MorisonThe Impact of Alcohol Consumption on Your Financial Well-being (I appreciated this article by Thomas because it hits on the practical side of giving up alcohol to live a more financially stable life. Thomas breaks down a number of different ways that alcohol hurt him financially and why giving it up can do wonders for anyone in this department. Educational 6-minute read)

Michele MaizeAlcohol is Not as Attractive as It’s Portrayed (Michele’s article does a great job of explaining the difference between how alcohol is portrayed as fun and carefree on shows and movies we watch and what happens in our real lives when we ingest it on a consistent basis. Interesting 6-minute read that paints this truth in the correct light.)

Most writers love reading comments, so please let the authors know what you think and give them some 👏 love (up to 50) if you can.

Your readership and shares help spread the word to others, so please feel free to share this directly with your friends or any of your social media handles to help others realize what a world with a controlled alcohol relationship looks like.

Please use the hashtag #ainyf or #thebamboozledbook and feel free to tag me on IG at @kenmmiddleton to continue to drive momentum with the movement.
